What is a Cryptocurrency Node?

A node is any device which is part of a network, and has a unique network address.

In cryptocurrency the term ‘node’ usually refers to wallet software. A ‘full node’ is therefore a wallet which maintains a complete and up-to-date copy of a digital currency blockchain and is usually kept online to connect with peers and keep the network in a healthy condition. The more online nodes there are in a network the easier and faster it will be for any new nodes which come online, for example when somebody opens their wallet, to find peers and synchronize with the network.
